We have a small disused park near us that has been used as a dog's bog for years, the posh lot from St. Margarets cross the little river footbridge to avail themselves of the green area and it is full of cr*p. There are bags of faeces everywhere and the few litter bins are overflowing with piles of bags around them, disgusting. Recently I told one of our local councillors and although I believe the area to be housing land, got an e-mail from Carillion who are the leisure services contractors, and who could not identify the area on their map, but then they were in Sheffield! I suggested that they just make the whole area a proper dog exercise area as it hasn't been a park for donkey's years, a similar thing has been done in Whitton Dene on the old allotments that could no longer be used as the ground was contaminated. It is regularly trimmed and the grass kept really short, plenty of disposal bins and some benches, works a treat and people do seem to respect it and clear up the waste. I hope that once it has been definitely established just whose responsibility this is that we can at least look forward to a decent and cleaner area, it would seem to be the best option. |
