They struggled for nearly a year to negotiate a reasonable rent but with the agents (or rather one in particular) pushing them up beyond the viability of small independent traders, they knew they would not be able to make ends meet so Mel decided to call it a day and do something else. Melbury's were a great asset to shopping in Chiswick and they always had something for that would do for a present for the weekend visit, birthdays, Christmas etc. They were one of a kind and I shall miss them. At the time he was negotiating, there were several other independent traders whose properties were owned by the same landlord having to do the same. I do hope we don't lose them as well. |
