I realise that many people may not have heard of the name Rhian (pronounced 'Ian' with a R on the front!) here in London but would also have thought, if they don't know what I've said, that they'd ask me to repeat it or, even better, ask to spell it...rather than writing down some arbitrary name like 'Lilianna' (I started helping by looking round for 'Lilianna' until I was informed it was me!), Briyan (?? am I a man?) Ria (I quite like this as it sounds quite exotic), one girl (after I thought I'd just tell her how to spell it!) didn't know what an 'h' was?! (my Welsh accent isn't THAT strong!) and rather than bringing LESS attention, had all of Starbucks witnessing me form an h with my finger in the air! Surely Starbucks must realise that their policy on asking names rarely works (unless your name is Sam or David!)...and, instead of making people feel special, it causes some form of identity crisis (although I haven't sought counselling yet!) I've decided that any pull to Starbucks in future will also bring on a name change...any suggestions?!
