Much as I don’t want it to go to be fair times change, buildings come & go we can’t live in a 1920’s time bubble. It’s a pity we don’t know what’s going to replace it but I am hopeful it will be OK. and would be happy for it to be a mix of residential and commercial. The problem, it seems to me, is that our generation have not been able to create a style of building unique to us that we all actually like so we cling on to the styles of the past. St Albans is a classic local example in my view. It should have been knocked down and replaced with something functional yet beautiful but somehow we seem incapable of coming up with these solutions. P.S. I wonder what we would all be saying if the positon was reversed. i.e. Houses and shops were knocked down to make way for a pub? |
