"in the absence of a serious opposition party on the Council" Phil - and what is your basis for this blanket assertion? I have not actually seen you at any meetings. The eleven Conservative Councillors are very well aware that in the May 2014 election over 57,000 votes were caste for Conservative Candidates (against 100k for Labour) and that we therefore have a powerful mandate to stand up for residents best interests, propose alternative policies, scrutinise the council's strategy and performance and hold officers and lead members to account. Our watch words are, as you will remember, "constructive opposition" - we do not oppose for the sake of opposing and understand that much can be achieved by a minority party that is seen to act in a positive and constructive manner. |
