I rarely post on the forum but was incensed to see a notice posted on the tall post outside the pub saying that it was to be demolished, beginning 8 September - the notice being about the nature of demolition rather than the demolition itself. My preliminary enquiries with the staff appear to suggest that this is a fishing expedition by the freeholders to gauge local reaction to the proposal. Are we truly being "consulted" on the nature of the demolition rather than the requirement/need for demolition in the first place? Leaving aside the callous disregard for the welfare of the current tenants living within the building, what substantive grounds are there to object and overturn this apparent fait accompli? We are talking about an unique (I think) 1930s style building on the High Road, built on the site of an historical public house site which provides a valued community asset (and appears to be a bit of a bolt hole for George regulars ousted during their renovations). Any advice and/or action gratefully received/accepted. |
