I spent most of that Saturday on the green with my daughter, who was very proudly presenting her sport to the local community, and having a great time trying out new sports too. The very occasional sound of the PA was hardly noticeable at all, and the thought that this small amount of noise caused someone to take time out of their (obvious not very busy) day to make a complaint about an event the whole community should be very proud of, is shocking. Considering the (non-amplified) noise the fair makes when it visits (remembering that the fair creates solid noise going on throughout the day, not the occasional announcement) - which during the same weekend had needed to set up on Acton Back Common instead - this seems little a very petty complaint taking advantage of a bizarrely constructed previous judgement. Surely the level of the noise is more important that it's source? Maybe next year they can use a town cryer to do the announcements instead? Living next to a large open public space next to a very busy main road, and then making complaints about a local community event seems perverse in the extreme. What kind of place do they want Chiswick to become? |
