I can't. I thought this contract came after the disastrous Ealing one where the streets were litter picked before the rubbish and recycling collection and where the lorries were too big to down the streets - so there would have been something to have learnt from there to avoid. But maybe not. From what we see liaising and co-ordinating doesn't seem to have been written in to the contracts. It IS very important though to make sure that the flats above shops receive so much information that they cannot plead ignorance. The same with the restaurants which should have commercial contracts - the majority of which I'm sure will have. That is needed before enforcement. Unfortunately without teamwork - which will be more difficult with different companies/agencies involved - it will be more difficult. Hopefully the new Town Manager will be able to bang some heads together. At present (just when people are going on holiday at the end of the school/uni year and in a heat wave) nobody involved is shown in a good light. Re politics - that is often exactly the reason why things don't get fixed - as there is too much political posturing and pussy-footing going on. |
