W/o wanting to sound rude I would suggest you are the exception rather than the norm then Phil. Relaying a carpet would cost very little by someone like: http://www.richmondcarpetfitter.co.uk/index.html; whom I have used and is very good. Lifting floor boards is simply time consuming and costly by comparison but no other reason not to. If you were to do so then rigid dense insulation between joists is best and I would bin the floorboards and replace with 25mm plywood screwed at 50mm centres and mastic the joins. This will assist in dampening noise further and be far more solid. The floor sound insulation in my earlier posting would then be OTT but a decent sound insulation underlay such as: http://www.tradepriced.co.uk/tredaire_colours_red_carpet_underlay.html, would finish the job nicely before relaying the carpet. |
