The waiting lists are huge because of the need of an adequate child to adult ratio. When I joined as an assistant beaver leader 8 children were able to come off the waiting list Potential leaders are offered training to help run the groups. I have been doing it for 4 years since my son joined Beavers and really enjoyed it. He is moving up to scouts in September. It is just one hour a week and sometimes I run the sessions activities so a little preparation in advance. We camp in some beautiful sites and it is wonderful seeing children able to explore a large territory safely as well as take part in lots of activities.
