Rub a goodly amount of arnica into the ankle and keep it raised (every man likes being waited on!!!) It helps to put a cold pack onto the ankle as well and I find those bottle coolers which are kept in the freezer are ideal. If it is too cold just fold over a clean tea towel repeat until the swelling reduces. Next day if it is very swollen and really painful then a trip to the GP to get a note for an Xray to check no bone damage. If none then get him to do some gentle ankle exercises (always within pain tolerance) such as turning the foot over and over clockwise and anti clockwise several times every day until the ankle is healed With a light sprain it is best to try gentle walking to get the muscles going and keep applying arnica cream - Roxannes on the High Street , beyond the junction with Sutton Lane North or Sainsbury often has it. A more severe sprain may need some ultrasound physio once it has been ascertained no serious damage. Put your best and kindest caring hat on and claim your reward once he is up and about. |
