Popped into St Michael's Church Hall this morning.. Not to pray – but to wish au revoir to Kishur and his missus..

(them what have run the Bedford Park Corner shop for 30 years)

Newspapers sweets, milk, sugar, fags.. the usual stuff we all need..

Great to also see Ratilal and his missus..

(them what once ran the Post Office.  Mean bowler/batsman was Ratilal)..

Anyway, I got to thinking.  I remember when Ratilal first came over from Uganda.  Followed later by his younger brother.  Then Kishur's marriage.

And sure.  People retire.  Or move on.

But in this case, is there a wider economic story?  About rents and rates?  I suspect there is?  Not that I know the details.

But now the sun's going down, I've began to wonder if this marks the beginning of the end of the old  'corner shop'?

Like Coronation Street – who could imagine that without The Cabin?

I hope not.  That would almost be tectonic.

Because Kishur's corner shop has been an integral part of the area for donkeys years.  Another little bit of Bedford Park glue.

Anyway, the corner shop further down The Avenue which also used to be a Post Office, seems to be doing quite well.  But it's bigger that Kishur's.  With more scope to become a mini-market.

Has anyone else heard the rumour that the Bedford Park Corner Shop is going to become part of a far larger Veterinary practice?

Just what the locals need????
