Yay! You finally got the picture to appear!
Surely some more W4'ers must recall the corner plot next to the Barley Mow pub - wouldn't it be great if we found some link between someone who bought their wedding ring from the Jewellers who went on to have offspring who bought a property from the Estate Agent that is now in that shop/office?
Whilst researching my Mother's birth family in the 1980's (she was adopted at 18 months old in 1948) we discovered all sorts of coincidences from the past - links between birth family/adoptive family (she was one of seven)that I am sure there must be local families who can recall more than Mylo's!!!
Strange how the ice-cream/sweetshop memories are strongest,  especially amongst the generation that was emerging from rationing - my many Aunts/Uncles are exactly the same - they remember where they were able to buy a toffee bonbon or an aniseed ball rather than where their school shoes were bought from let alone their house!
I guess in those days, as economic migration was not prevalent as it is today, people didn't buy and sell property as they do now.
People lived in the house they grew up in until they got married/left for war/university.
Often houses stayed in the same family for generations so Estate Agents, as we know them now, didn't exist. Property got passed from generation to generation and whole families never moved far from where they were born....
The next generation is probably going to experience that far more than any generation since the second world war - but it may well be through lack of opportunity rather than lack of desire...
