| The Trump phenomena makes the US look like an Empire in decline. The random tariff imposing on friends and enemies alike and threats against former allies like Canada is bringing Pax America, already weakened, to an end. It's clear that he has little interest in furthering the interests of the US, his moves are about personal gratification and ego. BRICS + driven by Trump's bombast and unpredictability has made unlikely allies of former rivals. It includes many major economic and military powers. The forming of unlikely alliances looks worryingly like what happens in the build up to wars. The decline of an Empire often creates instability and a jostling amongst other nations for power. We live in interesting times. |
